If you need to recover deleted videos, this app makes it much easier.

What if the app doesn't show the videos deleted? It's time to ask a few questions:

How long ago was it deleted?

When you write data onto any storage device, you're basically burning or etching the data into place. The process is different for every type of storage device, and if you're interested in going off topic, look up "how SSDs write data."

Distractions aside, what happens when you delete data? A single erase pass happens. This means when you delete something, a quick process writes over your old information to basically say "you can write over this space, it's fine."

Your data is still there, perfectly recoverable. ...Until you write over it again. The average users don't have control over where their data is written; it happens when the system decides it happens.

You could write over the data by anything. It's not just downloading another file that's the same size or bigger. Something completely random like downloading a picture, browsing and saving temporary data, or anything could clip that bit of information.

Don't even try to think up paranoid ways to avoid that. It's more work to avoid that accident than it is to use an app like this to recover the data, and trying to outsmart the overwrite is a waste of time.

Instead, search for the overwritten info. If it's not available in this app, search for another recovery system that's a bit more advanced. Casual users--especially casual users who try to truly erase their data--can't get rid of the information easily.

Did you have an SD card or other removable storage attached?

Make sure that you're not searching the phone or mobile device built-in storage. If you deleted a video or image that was on an SD card that is no longer in the phone, the app won't work.

This can confuse people because of a partial success that may happen. Many files have thumbnails, and for pictures and videos, the thumbnails may still be on the main storage. The thumbnails should be on the same location as the original file in many cases, but programming--much like life--simply isn't that perfect.

Be sure to look for the original storage media, whether its an SD card or a connected USB drive. You should also make sure that you're using the correct phone.

If the last part about making sure you're using the same phone seems weird, keep in mind that some people have their previous phones that they use for storage. As the years turn into decades, its easy to not just using the wrong device, but to misremember a photo or video as a recent event when it was really years ago.

2008 and 2018 blend together for a lot of people, especially when it's something as simple as a picture that they randomly want to find today. On the note of different devices, it's worth checking your email sent folder and any other upload areas in case you shared the data in other ways.
